My travels have enriched my life by giving me the opportunity to experience new places and cultures, to taste new foods and wines and to bring home fond memories. .

River cruising has been extremely popular in recent years and those that have sailed always return with rave reviews. I decided it was time for me to experience river cruising and come to my own conclusions. In May, I sailed on the Seine from Paris to Normandy's Landing Beaches on Avalon's Creativity. I must confess, it exceeded my expectations! The ship was spotless and the intimate size made it perfect for a relaxing yet exciting journey. The staff was amazing and went out of their way to make passengers feel pampered and well taken care of. The cruise director was always accessible to answer questions making sure each passenger was enjoying their trip. This would not be possible on a large cruise ship. Excursions that were included in the fare were well planned and enriching. The tour guides were outstanding and gave colorful accounts of the places visited. I fell in love with the picturesque Normandy countryside, especially Monet's garden in Giverny and the village of Auvers Sur Oise where Picasso spent his last months. No words can accurately describe the beauty of the region. For those interested in history, the excursion to the D-Day landing beaches proved to be a somber yet rewarding experience. To visit the memorials pays tribute to the many soldiers that lost their lives. I found the people of France to be gracious and friendly belying the rumors of their cold manners. I always felt welcomed. Traveling along the river from one of the most romantic cities in the world was one of the best times of my life. With the many itineraries Avalon Waterways offers I will be sure to be sailing with them in the future.
